Today TCS has relaesed one product from their Kolkata R&D division. It is like a set top box for Internet connection which can be used with our television. It is a nice idea. It makes easier to use television instead of computer for browsing.

TCS’ Home Infotainment Platform (HIP) has been launched successfully in India and Philippines. In India it was launched through Tata Teleservices Ltd. under the brand name ‘Dialog’ in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. In Philippines it is launched through Smart Communications under the brand name ‘SmartBro SurfTV’.

HIP, from TCS Innovation Labs – Kolkata, is a revolutionary device as it enables internet browsing without the aid of computers, on home TV sets. It looks like a simple set top box and has four USB ports.

HIP is a convergence device that can render Internet Content and multimedia (audio, video, pictures) on TV. It also supports collaboration applications like SMS and Video Chat on TV. The platform targets the majority of the population in developing countries that does not have a computer and is not able to use the Internet as an information source. By using standard Internet connection through 2G/3G wireless and asymmetric digital subscriber lines, TCS Home Infotainment Platform provides consumers access to interactive services over the television at an easily affordable price of around 100 USD.

Studies show that the spread of internet can have a positive affect on a country’s economic efficiency, functioning of markets and economic development in general. However, internet penetration is very low in developing countries and hence these countries stand to benefit greatly from HIP. Since HIP uses TV as the primary display channel and a TV-like remote control as the primary Input device, it brings in a familiarity aspect in its use that can put a non-computer-savvy user at ease to use the device.

HIP is a platform which could also be used for a variety of developmental programs and new business models in education (distance education) healthcare (telemedicine), TV-Commerce and Banking.

Among HIP’s features are:

Web browser application for Internet browsing, supports popular Internet apps like Search, Chat, Facebook, Twitter, Webmails etc.
Dedicated YouTube Video Player
Indian language support
Facility to download movies, songs, photos and documents from Internet to USB Pen-drive
Multi feature picture viewer to view pictures from USB Pen-drive
Multi feature Audio and Video Player to play songs and movies from USB Pen-drive
Document viewer to view Word, PDF and Excel files from USB Pen-drive
Support form Collaboration Applications like SMS and Video Chat

HIP makes use of a range of innovations and TCS Innovation Labs Kolkata has filed for 12 patents around this product. HIP is another example of frugal innovation, for a range of services that traditionally could be availed only through a computer. It is also a good example of co-innovation as it brings together a partner and vendor eco-system of Texas Instruments (Chipset), Olive Communications (Hardware integration), Opera (Browser) and Adobe (Flash).

விண்ணைத் தாண்டி வருவாயா விமர்சனம்

கடந்த சனிக்கிழமை நான் விண்ணைத் தாண்டி வருவாயா திரைப்படம் பார்த்தேன். எல்லோருக்கும் எளிதாகப்
புரிய வேண்டும் என்பதனால் இனி ஆங்கிலத்தில் தொடர்கிறேன்.

I have seen many movies in the mean time(Avatar, Aayirathil oruvan, Leader, karthik calling karthik). But I am not able to write reviews often. Hereafter i will do it regularly.

I love that movie verymuch because of its songs and cinematography. This film is directed by Goutham Vasudev Menon and produced by Udayanidhi Stalin. Songs and BG music by our king AR Rahman. Songs are really rocking. I love the promo song of this film very much. Simbu reenters into cinema with a different character apart from his usual style after a long time. He is booked for his next film with Manirathnam. He has got great opportunity.

Story line:

Karthik (Simbu), a mechanical engineer with the dreams of making films, meets Jessy (Trisha), a Malayalee Christian girl and she is working in a software company. The love starts at first sight for our hero. She lives on the top floor with her family. Karthik’s passionate wooing melts Jessy, who finally succumbs to his love. But trisha's family is more orthodox. After a certain extent, he decides not to let himself fall in love with Jessie and shakes hands with her to be friends. But, later reasserts that it's all for the sake of wooing her. And now, Jessie is literally confused with this relationship and when her parents get to know, things get worsened as they arrange her marriage with someone. She knows that they wont accept eventhough she is loving him.

Since, almost everyone I know raves about the film and it’s sweet romanticism. I thought about making some observations just in case you get caught in a gautham menonesque love.

Always think twice before you choose Mechanical Engineering, cos there is a huge history there.
Trains. Never miss an oppurtunity to go to a place in a train, especially long ones in the night ! But beware
Slim, beautiful looking Malayalee girls ( especially those who look angelic in sarees ) are very very, and I mean very dangerous.
You better have some money ( i.e. have a friend who has money) when you’re going to fall in love cause you’re probably going off to some place far far away which might even be America.
While messaging to your gal, always use a dumber mobile, b’cos even if you smash it down in anger( which you’re probably going to do a lot) you can assemble it back or in the worst case scenario leave it there.
If the gal has a brother ( who mostly will be 6+ feet tall, muscular and have a ruffian looking beard) you better have a nickname at college like ‘Quickfeet’ (which may either depict that you’re a strong kick boxer or you’re darn good at running)
It is always wise to learn a few good choosen swear words in English cause once the gal breaks your heart ( which is purely a matter of when and not why ) swearing IN english is far better and kooler.
In the end, when all is lost, Give up hope. Let go of that gal. Turn your eyes and do look at that beautiful girl who’s standing right next to you. After all, Trisha, illa na Divya

To be serious, the movie was beautiful. Music was in toe and groovy. Trisha was hot, never knew a saree could be this alluring. Both the story and simbu were different. Plaudits to them for trying out something different but they simply couldn’t deviate from the same old head movements, a couple of foreigners pouting around in songs and the scene in trains. In the end, it’s a little toooo close to reality and repetitive for my liking. But do catch it on the screen atleast once, to simply enjoy and take in the scenery ( and Trisha )

விண்ணை தாண்டி வருவாயா’ as a movie doesn’t even score the pass mark. But as something portraying a relationship between 2 persons with their own faults, it scores much more. But love is much more than ‘love at first sight’, ‘hugs’ and ‘kisses’ that come a bit too often in the movie. The hesitations and indecisiveness are very much there in real life love too though many can’t appreciate it. The movie was irritating at a lot of times with a lot of cliches and a gross portrayal of love at times – but real life can be more unrealistic at times. So ‘விண்ணை தாண்டி வருவாயா’ doesn’t deserve the ‘likes’ and ‘hates’ it has got. It is just a movie, go watch it. If you can’t take it, just feel free to walk out any time.

The music is really wonderful as ever with A.R. Rahman and the visuals were really nice, so the credit goes to the cameraman. This is an effort that needs to be appreciated for breaking away from the paradigms of Tamil cinema, though it is nowhere near perfection.

என்.சொக்கன் எழுதிய அண்ணாவின் ஒரு விரிவான வாழ்க்கை வரலாறு.

அண்ணாவைப் பற்றிய கதைகளை, சாதனைகளை நான் என்னுடைய சிறிய வயதிலிருந்தே கேட்டுள்ளேன். இதற்கு முக்கிய காரணமானவர் என் அப்பா, அவர் ஒரு தீவிரமான தி.மு.க தொண்டர். அண்ணாவைத் தன் சொந்த அண்ணாவாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்ட பல்லாயிரக் கணக்கான தம்பிகளில் என் அப்பாவும் ஒருவர். இருப்பினும் எனக்கு எப்போதும் அண்ணாவின் வாழ்க்கை வரலாற்றைப் படிக்க வேண்டும் என்று தோன்றியது இல்லை.

“குள்ளமான உருவம். ஆனாலும் அண்ணாந்து மட்டுமே பார்க்க முடிகிறது. அவரால் தொட முடிந்த சில உயரங்களை இன்று வரை இன்னொருவரால் நெருங்க முடியவில்லை. ஒரு விரிவான வாழ்க்கை வரலாறு” என்று புத்தகத்தின் முன் பக்கத்தில் பார்த்த உடன் இந்த புத்தகத்தைப் படிக்கும் ஆசை வந்தது. சென்னை புத்தகக் காட்சியில் வாங்கிய புத்தகங்களில் இதுவும் ஒன்று. வேலையின் பளு காரணமாக வாங்கிய புத்தகங்களை படிக்காமல் வைத்து இருந்தேன். கடந்த சில வாரங்களாக வாங்கிய புத்தங்களைப் படிக்க ஆரம்பித்தேன். மேலே சொன்ன காரணத்துக்காக இந்த புத்தகத்தை முதலில் படிக்க ஆரம்பித்தேன்.

ஒரு சில பக்கங்களைப் படித்த பின் மீண்டும் முதலில் இருந்து படிக்கும் ஆர்வம் அவ்வப்போது எழுந்தது. இதனால் புத்தகத்தை முழுவதும் படித்து முடிக்கும் முன்னரே இருமுறை முதலில் இருந்து படிக்க ஆரம்பித்தேன். அவ்வளவு எளிமையாகவும், அழகாகவும் எழுதியுள்ளார் சொக்கன் அவர்கள். இதில் வரும் பல சம்பவங்கள் என் அப்பா முலமாக ஏற்கனவே எனக்கு தெரிந்தவை என்றாலும் இப்புத்தகம் முதல் முறை படிக்கும் அனுபவத்தை அழகாக கொடுத்துள்ளது. சிறு வயதில் இருந்த அவருடைய குணாதியசங்களைப் பற்றியும், படிப்பில் அவருடைய ஈடுபாடுகள், அரசியலில் அவருடைய அணுகுமுறைகள் பற்றியும் மிகத் தெளிவாக எழுதியுள்ளார் சொக்கன். படிக்கும் காலத்தில் படிப்பை மட்டுமே கவனத்தில் வைக்க வேண்டும் என்ற கொள்கையை அண்ணா வலியுறுத்தியும் அதைக் கடைப்பிடித்தும் வாழ்ந்துள்ளார்.

அரசியல் நாகரீகம் என்றால் என்ன என்று தெரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்றால் அண்ணாவின் வாழ்க்கையை அறிந்து கொண்டால் போதும். கலைத் துறையில் மிகவும் ஈடுபாடு கொண்ட அண்ணா, அதன் மூலம் சொல்ல வந்த கருத்துகளை மிகத் தெளிவாகவும், ஆணித்தரமாகவும் சொல்ல முடியும் என்பதை அறிந்து அதை நல்ல முறையில் உபயோகித்தவர். இந்த விஷயத்தில் பெரியார் அண்ணாவிற்கு எதிரான கருத்து கொண்டு இருந்தார் என்பது மிகவும் ஆச்சரியமூட்டியது.

அண்ணா-பெரியாரின் உறவை விளக்கிய விதம் அருமை. இது போன்ற இன்னொரு உறவை பார்க்க முடியமா என்பது அரிதே.

இப்புத்தகம், நீதிக் கட்சியிலிருந்து திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகம் உருவானது வரையிலான சரித்திரத்தைத் தெளிவாக விளக்கியுள்ளது.

தி.மு.க 1967 பொதுத் தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெற்ற பின், கட்சி ஆரம்பித்து 18 ஆண்டுகளுக்குள் ஆட்சிக்கு வருவது சரியா என்று எண்ணியுள்ளார் அண்ணா. காங்கரஸில் காமராஜர் போன்ற பெருந்தலைகள் தோல்வியைக் கண்டு வருத்தம் தெரிவித்து, எதிர் கட்சியில் அருகதை உள்ள நல்ல தலைவர்கள் இல்லாமல் போனதே என்றும் வருத்தம் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இது போன்ற சம்பவங்கள் மூலம், அண்ணாவின் அரசியல் நாகரிகங்களைத் தெளிவாக படம் பிடித்துக் காட்டியுள்ளது இப்புத்தகம்.

தி.மு.கவின் ஆட்சியில் அண்ணாவின் சாதனைகளைப் பட்டியல் இட்ட போது இரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் தான் அண்ணா முதல்வராக இருந்தார் என்று என் அப்பா கூறியது எனக்குள் ஆச்சரியத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. அந்த ஆச்சிரியத்தை சொக்கன் அவர்களே இப்புத்தகத்தில் வெளிக்காட்டியுள்ளார்.

இப்புத்தகத்தின் பின் அட்டையில் “இனி ஆளுங்கட்சியாக இருந்தாலும் சரி. எதிர்க்கட்சியாக இருந்தாலும் சரி. அண்ணாவின் பெயரைச் சொல்லாமல் எந்தவொரு சக்தியாலும் இன்று அரசியல் செய்ய முடியாது” என்பது எவ்வளவு பெரிய உண்மை என்பதை புத்தகத்தை முடிக்கும் போது உணர்ந்தேன்.

இந்த புத்தகத்தை எழுதிய என்.சொக்கன் அவர்களுக்கும், பதிப்பித்த கிழக்கு பதிப்பகத்திற்கும் எனது நன்றி.

காதலின் இன்றைய உண்மை

விடலைப்பருவத்தின் இறுதியில் வரும் முதல் காதல், உயிரியலின் தூண்டுதலே அன்றி அது சமூக உறவுகளில், வாழ்க்கையில் முதிர்ச்சியடைந்த காதலல்ல. முதல் காதலைப் பற்றி பேசவேண்டுமென்றால் அது அனுதாபத்துடன் கிண்டலடிக்கப்பட்டு புரியவைக்கப்பட்டிருக்க வேண்டும். வீட்டிலும், கல்லூரியிலும் தோன்றும் பொய்யான கலக உணர்ச்சிகளை சரியாக திசை மாற்றி தனது வாழ்க்கையின் ஆளுமையை கண்டு பிடிக்கும் வழியில் அந்த முதல் காதல் புன்னகையுடனும், சுய எள்ளலுடனும் உலர்ந்து உதிர்ந்துவிடும்.

நடுத்தர வர்க்கம் பொருளாதரத்தில் தனது மேல் வர்க்கத்தைப் பார்த்து கனவு கண்டு விட்டு நிஜத்தில் சாதாரண வாழ்க்கையை சலித்துக் கொண்டே வாழும். இந்த வர்க்கத்தின் பொதுப் பண்பு என்னவென்றால் எதையும் பட்டு பட்டுனு முடிவெடுக்காமல் ஜவ்வாக இழுக்கும். அவ்வகையில் காதல், வீரம், சோகம் எல்லாம் ஜவ்வுதான்.

நடுத்தர வர்க்கம் துணிந்து காதலித்து, காதலின் பிரச்சினைகளை எதிர் கண்டு போராடி வெல்வது அபூர்வம். இதனால் பிரச்சினைகளை விட்டுவிட்டு காதலைப் பற்றிய மயக்கங்கள், அவஸ்தைகள் அதற்கு தேன்தடவிய பர்கராக தாலாட்டி வருடுகிறது. எங்களோடு படம் பார்த்தவர்கள் இந்த ஜவ்வை எவ்வளவு கேலி செய்ய முடியுமோ அவ்வளவு செய்ததுதான் எங்களுக்கு இருந்த ஒரே ஆறுதல்.

சாதியும், மதமும், வர்க்கமும் சேர்ந்து திருமணத்தின் குற்றவியல் சட்டமாக அச்சுறுத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கும் நாட்டில் அந்த அசலான பிரச்சினையைப் பற்றி பேசினால்தான் அது காதல் படம். வி.தா.வ யில் கிறித்தவம், இந்து மதம் எல்லாம் ஒரு பேச்சுக்கு வந்து சென்றாலும் படத்தின் இதயம், காதலின் இனிய அவஸ்தையையே பழைய முரளி படங்களுக்கு இணையாக அலுப்பூட்டும் விதத்தில் சுவாசிக்கிறது.

ஆனால் அலைகளின் கடற்கரை வாழ்க்கையில் இல்லாத அமெரிக்கா, அமெரிக்கர்கள் காறித்துப்பிய கென்டகி சிக்கன் கடை, ஷாப்பிங் மால்கள், செல்பேசி, எஸ்.எம்.எஸ், பளீர் சாலையில் பைக் பயணம் இவைதான் இது போன்ற காதல் படங்கள் வந்தடைந்திருக்கும் பரிணாமம். பா வரிசைப் படங்களில் நிலப்பிரபுத்துவ மேன்மையிலிருந்த காதல் இன்று முதலாளித்துவ முன்னேற்றங்களில் வந்து நிற்கிறதே அன்றி இந்தியாவின் காதல் வாழ்க்கையை அச்சுறுத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கும் உயிராதரமான ஜீவன் இங்கு திட்டமிட்டே மறைக்கப்படுகிறது. மேக்கப் இல்லாமல் போராட்டத்தில் உயிர்வாழும் உண்மையான தமிழகக் காதலர்களை சந்திக்க வேண்டுமா? 27.02.10 நக்கீரனின் 24 ஆம் பக்கத்தில் பாருங்கள்.

குழந்தைகள், காதல் இரண்டும் மனித குலத்தை உடல்ரீதியாகவும், அதனால் இனரீதியாகவும் நேசிக்கவைக்கும் அடிப்படைத் தூண்டுகோல்கள். ஆனால் அவை இரண்டும் அதன் வெளியை சுயம், தனிமை, வீடு என்ற தளைகளிலிருந்து பரந்த சமூக வெளிக்கு நகர்த்தும் போக்கில்தான் புடம் போடப்படுகின்றது.

காதல் ஒரு மனிதனை அதீதமான பலத்துடன் வாழ்க்கையை விருப்பமாக அணுகுவதற்கு தயார் செய்கிறது. காதலின் உதவியால் மனிதன் தனது சுற்றத்தை முன்னர் பார்த்திராத வகையில் அன்புடன் அணுகுகிறான். அவனுக்கு இதுகாறும் சலித்துப்போயிருந்த வாழ்க்கைத் தடைகள் இப்போது தாண்டுவதற்கு எளிதான விசயங்களாக மாறுகின்றன. ஆனால் காதலின் இந்த மகத்துவ ஆயுள் மிகவும் குறுகியது என்பதைப் பலரும் புரிந்து கொள்வதில்லை.

ஒரு ஆணும், பெண்ணும் தமது காதல் உண்மையானதா, பொருத்தமானதா என்பதை தத்தமது சமூக நடவடிக்கைகளிலிருந்தே கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியும். அதை அமெரிக்க, கேரளா லோகேஷன்களோ, அலங்கார உடைகளோ, ரஹ்மானின் உணர்ச்சியைக் கிளறும் இசையிலோ கண்டு தெளிய முடியாது. சரியாகச் சொல்லப்போனால் தமிழ் சினிமா தற்போது உருவாக்கியிருக்கும் இந்த புதிய சினிமா மொழி அதற்கு தடையாகவும் இருக்கிறது. எனக்கு ஒரு பெண்ணை பிடித்திருக்கிறது என்பதை மட்டும் ஒரு பரவச உணர்ச்சியாக எண்ணி எண்ணி இன்பமடையலாம்தான். ஆனால் வாழ்க்கை கோரும் சிக்கல் நமக்கு உணர்த்தும் ஒரே ஒரு யதார்த்தம் கூட இந்த இன்பத்தை வேகமாக முடிவுக்கு கொண்டுவந்து விடும்.

தன் காதலி கல்யாணியின் திருமணத்தால் மனமுடைந்து போயிருந்த முத்தையன், பூங்குளத்தை விட்டு திருப்பரங்கோயில் மடத்திற்கு கணக்குப் பிள்ளை வேலைக்குச் செல்கிறான். சென்ற இடத்தில் கார்வார் பிள்ளையின் சதியால் தங்கை அபிராமியைப் பிரிந்து சிறைக்கு செல்கிறான். சிறையிலிருந்து தப்பிச் செல்லும் முத்தையன், பிரபலமான கள்வனாகிறான். கல்யாணியுடன் ஏற்பட்ட எதிர்பாராத சந்திப்பு, அவர்கள் காதலை உயிர்ப்பிக்கிறது. அபிராமியை கமலபதியின் கைகளில் ஒப்படைத்து விட்டு, காதலியுடன் கள்வன் தப்பி ஓட திட்டம் தீட்ட, போலீஸ் அவனுக்கு வலை வீச. என்று இறுதி அத்தியாயங்களில் அனல் பறக்கிறது.

கல்கியின் ‘கள்வனின் காதலி’ – உலகில் உறுதியானது, உண்மையானது, அழிவில்லாதது ஒன்று உண்டு; அது அன்பு. தீய செயல்களுக்குங்கூட அன்பே தூண்டுகோல்.

VTV is the third Gautam movie which i had seen in the first week. This time i saw the movie in Madurai, the renovated Jazz. To be true the theater was pretty decent and they had really turned on the air conditioner unlike few theaters where it is just printed on the ticket.

Coming to the movie, it is pretty decent effort from Gautam’s side and exactly has his touch of handling romantic scenes. As Gautam mentioned in his talks, it is the same old love story, told differently. It was a bit fresh and practical when compared to other love stories. The romantic dialogues were pretty impressive and as usual, it was more in English and Malayalam than in Tamil. Funny part, he does mention about it in the movie. So seems to be stricly for A centers. The location, the screenplay and the picturisation were great.

Simbhu should have struggled to act without punch dialogues, unnecessary fights and finger circus. So naturally it was a better performance and the role suited him too. Trisha as malayali girl was too beautiful and cute. Background voice of chinmayi too suited her nature as a calm and confused girl. Thanks to all those who had helped Trisha in looking beautiful Costume selection was also good. Also, for a change Trisha’s face showed a lot of reactions, which was amazing. Rarely does the audience get to see Trisha acting and she has done a marvellous job in the movie.

Songs were already a hit, and i need not mention about ARR’s BGM. It did rock. Songs were great to watch. Though it is the same old love story, which Tamil cinema had repeatedly tred along few decades, the way in which it is told makes it interesting.

So what is the story ? I am not telling you anything, better know it when you see in theater. Thats the best way to enjoy the movie. Only thing, watch out for some twist at the end.

Commendable work from Gautam, would recommend seeing it once.

On the backdrop of Sachin Tendulkar’s undefeated double hundred in an ODI, a lot of issues on how a lot of people consider Tendulkar have started getting to me, hence this post. The first thing that is so often said about the genius is that ‘he always plays for himself’. The surprising thing is that a lot of those who say such mean things don’t have anything to back it. Is playing for your country in the World Cup a couple of days after your father’s death called ’selfish’ or can any of those persons who claim Tendulkar is a selfish player quote where he has played selfishly to cause India to lose a match.

Some other group of people may say that Indian team winning is more important than Sachin Tendulkar playing well, yeah I do agree. But they also make a silly statement that ‘If it is India or Tendulkar, I will choose India’. Yeah I appreciate their patriotism, but isn’t supporting a fellow human, a fellow Indian who also has the same amount of patriotism, equally important. I know India is country which takes pride in ‘Unity in diversity’ and that everyone is entitled to freedom of expression and thought, but it is really *bad* to use it to sling mud on someone who is as patriotic and far more skilled! Anyone know how it is to face a Shoaib Akthar or a menacing Dale Steyn at full throttle and still come out with blazing guns? Can someone shoulder the expectations of a nation of about billion people for more than twenty years on the trot and still be successful more often than not?

Also there was a lot of noise caused when BCCI, a few years ago, famously mentioned that ‘all the players of the cricket team represented BCCI and not India!’ To the people who think so, I would point my middle finger at them and swear obscenely! Sportsmen with supreme skill and mastery deserve whole-hearted appreciation without any man-made boundaries and barriers – I love Roger Federer as much as I love Tendulkar and I am more attached to Tendulkar as he is a fellow Indian. He is a fine man on and off the field and definitely a role model for a lot of budding Indians!

Political crap often use a lot of issues to stay in the news or to play communal politics to keep the foolish voters enchanted like ‘Sachin belongs to Maharashtra first and not India before it!’ and all those assorted and canned trash. I have a few interesting thoughts in my mind regarding the whole issue:

1. How can Sachin Tendulkar play for India without scoring runs? He scores runs for India to win. Definitely a person who has played cricket for so long with undying passion knows more about cricket and playing than those noise-makers.

2. Aren’t ‘countries’ man-made boundaries for political and other reasons causing irreconcilable separation between people? Even still, aren’t countries made up of people?

3. Isn’t humanity more important than anything else – even patriotism?

4. When you can’t appreciate one of your own for his achievements what the hell are you going to do with your so-called patriotism? Imo, patriotism was a man-made creation to keep people united within the man-made boundaries.

If you can’t appreciate someone, just STFU!

Been getting very busy with all the heavy work and responsibilities that I needed to do and take up But it’s really fun. Strangely though my online social life is getting victimized and the fact is I like it. It feels good to not go through meaningless pokes, ‘I punch, U punch’ and god-knows what kind of quiz challenges from my dear friends. Perhaps, Fb and Orkut are more of spam than the 4218 spam comments I’ve had to tackle recently.

Google is making their next move into Broadband market. Google plans to build a fibre optic broadband network that will connect people to Internet at speeds 100 times faster than most existing broadband connections in the US.

They said that Google plans to build and test the network in trial communities around the country starting later this year and that the tests could encompass
as many as 500,000 people. They cited 3-dimensional medical imaging and quick,  high-definition film downloads among the applications of such high-speed internet access.

"We'll deliver internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access  to today with 1 gigabit per second, fibre-to-the-home connections," the post said.  "We plan to offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people."

Google will make it possible ASAP. There are many competitors for Google now. But still  they are the best in developing killer web apps and in providing web services.   In the last year it made a splash in the mobile phone market  with its Android operating system and lastweek they have announced a social networking
feature aimed at taking on Facebook and Twitter.

If they implement it means, in future we dont need heavy systems. We can have  everything as a thin client. All the process of an operating system can be done
as "SaaS" or as a "On Demand Service" using Cloud Computing. We will expect those days as soon as possible.

I am awake at 2.00AM in the morning, observing the peacefull city with very little clue about what to do and why i woke up. The city looks peaceful and with summer starting, nights are unusually hot.

Anyway thought of sharing few things that happened during a train journey that managed to catch my attention. Dont expect something spicy, in the train i travel things like that rarely happen.

Anyway that day i had to travel in a three tier AC coach. As per my experience my thought is that the chance for people to interact with people in AC coach is pretty less when compared to the sleeper coaches, since most of them have something to keep themselves occupied. I had my own plans of completing a novel, which i am trying to do for a long long time. But few things happened that managed to grab my attention.

As usual, the coupe i was in was testosterone rich and didn’t have any trace of any girl. The same state prevailed in the near by coupes too. Is that my luck or is that the state of the train, i have no clue. In my coupe, there was a old gy, some one from northern part of india for sure, a middle aged man who never bothred us, another guy who seemed more like a fresher, and the character in focus, whom i will call American return, as i am not aware of his name.

It all started when, TTE started checking the tickets. Our guy had the ticket in iPhone, and zoomed the document and kept it ready, which the TTE as expected refused to see and he had to pay Rs. 50 as fine. Our guy tried arguing with the TTE who remained silent and continued to fill the receipt. The reason he quoted was he is trying to save paper by not printing the ticket. Though most of the other people didn’t try listening to his grievences, except for the old guy.

So our american return started in full swing, he blamed the Indian government for not making it easy to use their services. His lavish comments had a strong american accent and looked more like it was intentional. He could speak normally too, which became evident, when he started talking later. Looks like he was not happy with how railways was functioning. Though it had made so much of profit, still there was no escalators in railway station as a result of which most of the old people struggle a lot. The old guy turned out to be a railway judge and he was able to give him some explanation. Few points he made,

* Though Indian railways makes a lot of profit, there are a lot of other basic amenities to be fulfilled other than escalator.
* Looks like the newly installed escalator in Chennai Egmore seems to be creating more problems, than helping people.
* Along with the escalator, a person was employed to maintain it and help people. Also, the guys employed to take care of it lack knowledge about it, and they do struggle.
* Though at times, if some accidents are caused because of the pure negligence of the people, Railways does pay them money just for the reason that they are illiterate.

The talk continued and American return, stuck to his point. Though it was just two people who talked for a long time, there were a lot of silent observers including me. One point that i will accept with that American return guy is that, we Indians lack don’t push ourselves to perfection. This is very much true, we rarely take steps to make things perfect and this get reflected in all levels.

One quality that i did note in that american return guy is that, he started the conversation with an argument and finally ended it in a good note and went upto the level of exchanging contact details with the old guy. Also should thank him for making the train journey a bit interesting. This is just a gist of what happened, as usual described in a bit of crude way.

As for the novel, i still at the same page i started with during the start of my journey.

Yesterday for the second show myself and Gupta went to iMax here in Hyderabad to watch "My Name is Khan" starring Shahrukh khan and Kajol. This movie is produced and directed by Karan Johar. We went to theatre directly from office. It became very late to start from office yesterday. As a whole, I like the movie. I loved Shahrukh's acting. It is really appreciable. Unnecessary political issues made this film to become very popular. Nothing can be say as significant except his acting. Definitely everybody can see it once.

Story :

Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan) suffers from some syndrome, a kind of autism that makes him walk in a different manner. Heavy sounds make him nervous and yellow color freaks him out. But he is good at many things especially in repairing anything. After his mother dies, he moves to US to stay with his brother. There he is working as a salesman or his brother's company. He meets Kajol, a single mother as a customer and also she is a hair stylist.

Then they become more close and starts loving. And they marry one day, eventhough she is Hindu and he is muslim. They were very happy, hero, heroine an their son until the 9/11 WTC terrorist attack happens. Every Americans started hating Muslims. Since his name contains Khan in a ,communal bashing incident, their son is killed. Kajol blames Khan since everything happened only because of she married him. Kajol leaves Khan and he embarks on a picturesque journey through America. His mission is to meet the president with the message "My name is khan and I am not a terrorist".

He was put in a jail due to misunderstanding when he goes to meet US president. After a long time, he comes back. Then he goes to Georgia where people suffered due to storm and heavy rain. He goes there to meet a lady and his son, since they have helped him sometime back. He goes and helps them to save their life. Surely it stimulates all the people to be united.

Then atlast he meets Obama and says those words to him. The film ends like that. It is a movie completely taken in US.

Shahrukh Khan will get more credits for this film.

சேலத்திலிருந்து நாமக்கல் செல்லும் வழியில், டிரைவர் கல்கிக்கு பொய்மான் கரடைக் காட்டுகிறார். விசித்திரமான அந்தப் பாறையைப் பற்றி உள்ளூருக்குள் வழங்கி வரும் கதையை அப்படியே பயணத்தின் போது டிரைவர் எடுத்துவிட, அது ‘பொய்மான் கரடு‘ எனும் அமர இலக்கியமாக நமக்கு கிடைத்து விட்டது.

An article on customizing Damn Small Linux, which I wrote for Linux For You magazine and got published in January 2010 issue.

There's an old unused computer at home that doesn't have a great hardware profile—a Pentium II processor with 64 MB of RAM. I wanted to use this computer meaningfully, and hence came up with this idea of customising Damn Small Linux (DSL), a small GNU/Linux distribution that can work with minimal hardware. The users of this system were my parents, who know very little about computers and merely wanted a simple interface to browse the Web and check e-mails. I decided to make the system as simple as possible so that anyone could switch it on and start using it.

Here are the requirements specifications:

Use low-profile hardware
Quick booting
Show my name during start up :-)
Should not require entering a user name and password to log in to the system
Show the Web browser with some URL, as default
